Sunburn a Private Affair, Decision Lies with Organisers: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte
Amid ongoing discussions about the relocation of the popular music festival Sunburn, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has clarified that the decision to host the event rests entirely with the organisers, as it is a privately managed affair.
Speaking to reporters, Khaunte stated, “Sunburn is a private event. Whether or not it is held in Goa is up to the organisers. The government does not need to intervene in such decisions.”
The minister also emphasized that Goa is being consistently promoted through monthly initiatives aimed at regenerative tourism — a model that focuses on preserving local culture, environment, and community well-being. “Goa doesn’t require unnecessary publicity to remain a top tourist destination,” he added.
Khaunte's comments come in the backdrop of recent debates about the suitability of large-scale events like Sunburn in various parts of the state, and the broader need to strike a balance between tourism growth and cultural preservation.
