Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has reiterated his long-standing stance on cultural preservation, stating that large-scale commercial events like Sunburn are better suited for North Goa, while South Goa should focus on promoting its rich heritage and traditional values.
Speaking to the media, Tawadkar emphasized the need to protect Goan identity, particularly in South Goa, which he described as the cultural heart of the state. “I have always maintained that South Goa should remain rooted in its traditions. Events that align with Goan culture and values should be encouraged here,” he said.
Tawadkar clarified that his comments were not against any specific festival but reflected his consistent view that different regions of Goa could promote tourism in different ways — North through music and nightlife, and South through heritage tourism, cultural festivals, and eco-tourism.
His remarks come amid renewed debate over the relocation of major events and their impact on local communities and cultural integrity.
