The Goa government has established a State High-Powered Committee for the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, chaired by the Chief Secretary, to oversee and closely monitor all Swachh Bharat Mission projects in the state. The committee is expected to make major decisions, one of the most important being the goal of achieving garbage-free cities by 2026.

The committee includes secretaries from the departments of Urban Development, Health, Finance, Housing, and Environment, along with the Chairman of the Goa State Pollution Control Board and a representative from the Union Ministry of Urban Development.

SBM-U 2.0, launched in October 2021, focuses on completing pending projects from Mission 1.0, institutionalising sustainable waste management practices, and aligning with the SDG 2030 targets. The committee is tasked with approving action plans, ensuring fund allocation, and mobilising additional resources. The initiative also emphasises citizen engagement, infrastructure development (e.g., sewage treatment plants), and behavioural change campaigns to improve urban living standards.
