PANJIM: The residents of St Inez, Panjim faced hardships for two days as taps ran dry due to sudden repair work of the pipeline.
Residents had to depend on water tankers and many purchased mineral water bottles for drinking and cooking. The eateries situated in St Inez areas also used water from the tankers.
PWD works division III, sub-division-I assistant engineer Sarita Shirodkar said that water supply was stopped to undertake repair work on pipeline distributing water to St Inez areas. The work of end-cap pipe fitting was started near St Inez “Y” junction on Saturday evening and continued throughout the day on Sunday. Shirodkar had earlier assured that water would be released on Sunday night after the pipeline repair work was completed but that didn’t happen.
According to the PWD assistant engineer, on Sunday night
there was a major pipeline breakdown of 250 mm DI occurred near Zarina Towers at St Inez and as a result, there was no water supply to these areas on Monday morning.
Those residing in the Government Quarters at St Inez were hard hit in the absence of sumps to store water.
The water supply to St Inez areas was restored only on Monday evening.
