A tattoo artist from Karnataka was allegedly stabbed by a former colleague in Calangute late Saturday night. The incident appears to have been sparked by the victim working for a rival shop.

According to Calangute Police, three individuals, all from Gadag, Karnataka, previously operated a tattoo shop in Tito’s Lane, Baga, Calangute. They ceased their business due to disagreements with the shop owner, who subsequently leased the space to another tattoo shop.

One of the former partners, 23-year-old Arun Lamani, began working for the new shop. This angered his two former partners, who wanted him to continue their previous partnership. A dispute ensued, and when Lamani refused to rejoin them, his former partners allegedly called him for a discussion on Saturday night, which escalated into an altercation.

Police suggest that the assailants may have pre-planned the assault. They reportedly moved Lamani to two locations before taking him to a deserted lane in Porbawaddo, connecting the Calangute-Arpora road to the Calangute-Mapusa road.

Around midnight on Saturday, one of his former partners, Akash Lamani, allegedly stabbed him multiple times with a sharp weapon. Arun sustained severe injuries to his face, hands, and upper body, and his kidney was ruptured in the brutal attack, police said.

The assailants fled the scene, leaving Arun in the lane. Eyewitnesses reported the incident to Calangute Police, who promptly arrived and transported the victim to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where he is currently in critical condition.

Calangute Police said efforts are on to nab the absconding accused and expect to arrest them soon. Further investigations are on.
