TCP Minister Rane Promises White Paper on Land Conversion Practices

Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday announced that the state government will soon publish a white paper outlining land conversions carried out across Goa.

Rane said the document will aim to bring transparency and accountability to the issue of land use changes, detailing data from his tenure as well as previous governments.

According to the minister, around 16 to 17 lakh square meters of land have been converted since he assumed charge of the TCP portfolio. In contrast, Rane pointed out that approximately 1.50 crore square meters were converted before his tenure. He also noted that the bulk of this — nearly 9.5 crore square meters — took place during the previous Congress-led government.

“This white paper will give the people of Goa a clear, factual picture of how land conversion has taken place over the years. It’s about accountability and ensuring that such processes are not misused,” Rane stated.

The upcoming report is expected to serve as a key reference for future planning decisions and public discourse around land use and development in the state.
