PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that those who had not submitted their tenant verification forms as yet can do so within the next four to five days, even as the last date to submit forms ended on Thursday.
The State government had earlier announced October 10 as the last date for submitting the tenant verification data. “If not already done, people can willingly submit the verification forms along with the IDs within next four to five days. Police will co-operate and support,” he said.
Sawant also asserted that the verification forms and submission is free and those who were yet to submit forms may do so within next four to five days.
The Chief Minister warned that fines of Rs 10,000 will be imposed by police on those who still refrain to comply with the Goa (Verification of Tenants) Bill. Tenants have been involved in all types of crimes in the past, he said adding that the verification is for the safety and security of the people given the past incidents of criminals committing crimes and fleeing the State.
“I once again request the people to cooperate with the police failing which the police will start visiting their residence and start penalising them. They will also face inquiry as per the Act,” said Sawant.
Meanwhile, the Goa Police clarified that proper criminal antecedent checks are being done for all tenant verification forms by asking details from the tenants native State Police Station and also through online Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
The Goa Police further stated that they had not received any complaints in this matter. “If anyone has a specific complaint, please approach senior officials. We will get it thoroughly investigated by the Vigilance Department,” the police said.
The Police also refuted allegations made by AAP State president Adv Amit Palekar that there was a new scam in the name of tenants verification by the Goa police. He had said that forms are kept with photocopier costing Rs 30 and for urgent submission Rs 500 and for regular submission Rs 100 collected at every police station. “Whom is it collected for? CM are you aware of this scam?,” Adv Palekar asked.
