PONDA: A house was burgled on Sunday night in the Naga Masjid area, raising alarms among local residents about the increasing number of thefts in the region. This incident occurred despite the recent arrest of a gang of five thieves linked to temple burglaries.
The homeowner, Naseem Shindi, reported that she and her husband had gone to visit relatives when the thieves broke open the main door and made off with gold ornaments, cash, and bangles valued at approximately Rs two lakh. Shindi, who lives on the ground floor of a rented building, noted that her two sons reside in a separate building across the street. Although she was in the same neighborhood, her home was targeted, leading her to suspect that the thieves may be from nearby areas.
Curti-Khandepar panchayat member Naved Tehsildar expressed the community’s growing concern over the rise in thefts. He acknowledged that while a gang of thieves had recently been apprehended, the ongoing challenge posed by criminals remains significant. Tehsildar emphasised the need for increased police presence and security measures to protect residents’ properties and urged the government to address the issue promptly.
