PONDA: Thousands participated in the unique Ganesh idol procession at Adpai during the five-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. The festivities culminated in Adpai, Ponda, with the traditional idol immersion procession on Wednesday.
Adpai is known for its unique and traditional joint celebration, where around 17 families (kutumbs) from the village organised a float procession depicting mythological figures, attracting large crowds from across the state. Each year, these families, residing in different parts of the state, come together as one family to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi.
On the fifth day of the idol immersion, these 17 families prepare an equal number of floats based on mythological figures, with the idol of each family carried on its respective float during the procession. Family members dance to the beat of drums, chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and “Jay Vithal,” while singing bhajans. After worshipping at a common place, the idols are later immersed in the Zuari river.
