CALANGUTE: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday sealed three shops in Calangute for allegedly selling substandard cashew nuts. The action came after samples of cashew nuts from these shops failed quality tests.

The three shops, M/s Dwarkadish Cashew owned by Parveen Bishnoi, Gujarati Cashew owned by Sohan Lal, and Shree Ram Enterprises owned by Avinash Powar, were found selling inferior quality cashew nuts.

Based on the findings, the FDA officials directed the shop owners to stop operations immediately and sealed the premises. Further legal action will be taken against the shop owners, officials said.

“This action aims to ensure that only quality products are sold to consumers and to curb the sale of substandard food items in the market,” officials said.

The raid was carried out by FDA officials Richard Noronha, Rajaram Patil, Bhakti Walke, Pradiksha Chopdekar, and others under the guidance of FDA director Shweta Desai.

This is the third raid since the start of the new tourist season by the FDA following complaints of stale cashew nuts being sold to tourists by cashew nut shops in Calangute.
