In a stirring tribute to the nation's defenders, the Goa unit of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) held a massive rally and public felicitation programme on Monday evening at Zuarinagar. The event, attended by hundreds of supporters and local residents, culminated in a grand gathering at the Dr Isodoro Carvalho Multipurpose Hall in Sancoale.
The rally, described by organisers as strictly apolitical, aimed to honour the selfless service and sacrifices of India's armed forces. It featured a patriotic march, with participants waving the national flag and holding banners in support of the military.
Senior TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was present at the event, which included the felicitation of local military veterans. Goa TMC state convenor Mariano Rodrigues, a former Cortalim Zilla Panchayat member, led the initiative.
“This rally was not a political programme but a heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women of our defence forces,” Rodrigues told the media. He noted that the event followed a nationwide call by TMC Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging party members to organise such gestures of appreciation.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to the army, navy, air force, and paramilitary forces for protecting our borders and maintaining peace,” he added. “Behind every uniform is a family that sacrifices just as much, living with daily concern for their loved ones.”
Rodrigues also extended thanks to residents of Zuarinagar, Velsao, Sancoale, Cansaulim, and nearby villages who joined the rally in large numbers, reflecting strong community support for the cause.
The evening concluded with an emotional ceremony honouring several retired servicemen and a collective standing tribute to the armed forces, reinforcing the message of national unity and respect for those who serve.
