Goa Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, during the Zero Hour of the ongoing Legislative Assembly session on August 4, reiterated the government’s commitment to upgrading beach infrastructure and prioritizing visitor safety at prominent tourist spots in the state.
Responding to a query from Cortalim MLA Antonio Vaz about the condition of Velsao Beach, Khaunte informed the assembly that several measures have been implemented to enhance safety at the site. A team of 15 trained lifeguards has been stationed at Velsao Beach to provide 24/7 safety coverage for tourists and locals. The beach has also been equipped with high-mast lighting, now maintained by the Electricity Department to ensure continuous and reliable operation.
Addressing issues raised about inadequate facilities for local fishermen, Khaunte recognized the need for dedicated canoe parking and the installation of public toilets. He assured the assembly that a joint on-site inspection would be conducted in coordination with the local MLA to evaluate the situation and determine necessary improvements.
The Minister highlighted the Tourism Department’s proactive and collaborative approach, emphasizing ongoing efforts to address ground-level challenges and enhance beach infrastructure for the benefit of both the tourism industry and local fishing communities.
