With the annual fishing ban officially lifted, traditional fishermen from Varca and Benaulim have returned to the sea, marking the start of a new fishing season filled with hope and anticipation.

Before setting sail, the fishing community gathered with their families for a traditional blessing ceremony led by the local parish priest. They prayed for protection, favorable weather, and an abundant catch in the months ahead.

The ceremony, rooted in local culture and faith, is a long-standing tradition that reflects the fishermen's deep connection to the sea. Community members shared that this ritual not only ensures spiritual strength but also reinforces their shared heritage and the importance of preserving their age-old fishing practices.

As boats set off into the waters, the atmosphere was one of optimism and unity, signalling the beginning of another season vital to the livelihoods of many coastal families.
