Traffic police, MMC demand action on hazardous MPA wall in Baina
Published on

The Traffic Police Inspector and Mormugao Municipal Corporation (MMC) have jointly urged the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) to immediately dismantle a newly constructed compound wall in Baina, citing serious safety concerns. The wall, built at a spot already known for frequent accidents, has become a growing source of danger for road users.

This demand followed a joint inspection and meeting, during which both authorities flagged the wall and the MPA gates located on the up and down ramps as major obstructions. The Traffic Police Inspector pointed out that these structures limit visibility and hinder the smooth movement of vehicles—particularly during peak traffic hours and harsh weather—posing a significant risk of accidents and congestion.

The MMC backed these claims, stating that public safety must outweigh any administrative or structural preferences. Officials noted that the stretch has a well-documented history of accidents, with several reported in recent months. They warned that the wall and gates, if left in place, could lead to further mishaps involving motorists, pedestrians, and port employees.

To resolve the issue, the Traffic Police and MMC have formally requested the MPA to remove the wall and reconsider the placement of the gates. They also proposed alternative safety solutions such as clearer signage and road markings to alert commuters and reduce the risk of collisions.

The final decision now rests with the MPA. Meanwhile, local residents and daily commuters are calling for urgent action to improve safety at this critical junction in Baina.
