In a tragic incident early Tuesday morning, a man lost his life after accidentally falling into the Mandovi River while sleeping on the Panjim promenade.
According to police sources, the unidentified man was sleeping near the riverbank when he reportedly slipped and fell into the water. Passersby noticed the body floating and alerted authorities.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, and the body was later recovered by a team from the fire and emergency services. However, he was declared dead upon retrieval.
Police have initiated an inquiry to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the exact circumstances leading to the fall. Initial indications suggest it was an accidental death, and no foul play is suspected at this stage.
Locals have called for better safety measures along the promenade, especially for those who frequent the area at night or use it for rest.
The body has been sent for postmortem examination at the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
