MARGAO: Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents in South Goa within 24 hours, while another sustained minor injuries.
While one fatal accident was reported at the Curchorem police station, another occurred
at the Nessai junction in Maina-Curtorim.
In the first case, Sohail Mohammed Arif Choudhari, a resident of Guddemol, Sanvordem
rode his motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner while travelling from Dabal towards Sanvordem and knocked down an oncoming scooterist Aashwit Gaonkar of Dabal, Dharbandora.
The impact was such that Gaonkar fell beneath a tipper truck and succumbed to his injuries, while Choudhari sustained minor injuries.
Police registered an offence under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS, 2023. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Dinesh Gaonkar of the Curchorem Police Station.
In the second road accident at Nessai junction, Alvito Travasso, a resident of Pulamol, Sao Jose De Areal died of severe head injuries when he lost control over his scooter and collided against the edge of a compound pole on 15 December.
Maina-Curtorim police stated that they received a phone call from the Panaji Police Control Room (PCR) informing them of the accident. Upon visiting the scene, officers found that Travasso had been riding a Vespa scooter when he lost control and collided against a compound pole.
He was immediately shifted to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao, where he was declared dead upon arrival. An inquest panchnama was conducted, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
