PANJIM: Porvorim Police have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in a series of house break-ins and thefts across North Goa. During a press conference held at the Porvorim Police Station, North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshat Kaushal named the accused as Mario Baptista (44) from Peda Grande, Benaulim, and Mohammad Sufiyan (20), a first-year BCom student from Navelim, Margao.

SP Kaushal explained that over the past few months, the police observed a pattern of house thefts occurring in the early morning hours, carried out in an organised manner with minimal evidence left behind. Surveillance footage frequently captured one individual wearing a mask during the thefts, leading to the arrests.

Baptista has a criminal history, with prior arrests in connection with 14 house burglary cases. The police have also identified two individuals suspected of receiving stolen goods and are currently interrogating them.

The accused have been linked to three theft cases reported in May and September this year.
