Unregulated Homestays in Residential Areas Worry Locals, Says MLA Lobo; Tourism Minister Urges Public to Report Violations

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has raised serious concerns over the proliferation of unregulated homestays in residential areas, stating that the growing number of such accommodations is disturbing local communities and disrupting peace in neighborhoods.

Lobo highlighted that many of these homestays operate without proper registration or regulation, often causing noise, overcrowding, and parking issues for residents.

Responding to the issue, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte clarified that only verified and registered guest houses are listed on official Online Travel Aggregators (OTAs). “The department is taking steps to ensure compliance. We urge citizens to report unregistered or illegal stays so action can be taken,” Khaunte said.

The Minister reiterated the government's commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable tourism while ensuring that local communities are not adversely impacted by tourism-related activities.
