VASCO: In a surprising turn of events, as many as 32 long-serving employees of a starred hotel in Vasco were prevented from resuming work on Saturday, as the hotel management announced their termination.
The affected workers, are now demanding a final settlement from the management. The hotel management told them that it was facing severe financial difficulties and made the decision to cut down its workforce to reduce losses. The move has sparked outrage among the staff, with many having worked for more than 30 years.
On Saturday, the management did not allow these workers to resume duty and were kept outside the gate. The workers have now demanded that the management should give them proper full and final settlement and refused to sign on cheques, when they were invited for talks on Friday.
“We have dedicated decades of our lives to this establishment. Being asked to leave without a full and final settlement or explanation is both, unfair and disheartening. We want full and final settlement as per Wage Code and we will not accept cheques,” said one of the workers.
The affected workers have also sought intervention of the State government to ensure they receive their due compensation as per the Wage Code.
