VASCO: Transporters and truck owners protesting against alleged monopolisation in Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) operations have temporarily suspended their strike following assurances from Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar.

On Friday, local truck operators staged a protest at Varunapuri junction, blocking loaded trucks, alleging that an external lobby was being given preference over local transporters. They demanded fair business opportunities to sustain their livelihoods.

The protest led to a major traffic jam, prompting Vasco police to intervene. MLA Salkar arrived at the scene, urged the protestors to withdraw, and assured them he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister for a resolution.
