Social worker Roquezinho D’Souza and concerned residents of Velsao have jointly appealed to the Indian Railways to keep the traditional access route open near the Velsao Panchayat and to urgently address drainage issues caused by recent landfilling activities along the railway tracks.
Residents claim the closure of the traditional pathway has disrupted daily life, particularly for those who depend on it for commuting and access to essential services. In addition to the access issue, the community has expressed serious concern over waterlogging and flooding in the area, reportedly triggered by improper drainage due to landfilling near the railway line.
Roquezinho D’Souza, speaking on behalf of the villagers, emphasized that both issues are interlinked and require immediate attention from the railway authorities. “We are not against development, but traditional paths and proper drainage systems are critical for the well-being of our people,” he said.
MLA Anton Vas also visited the affected site and reportedly met with Railway officials to highlight the community’s concerns and press for a timely resolution.
Local leaders and villagers are hoping for a constructive response and quick action from the authorities to avoid further hardship, especially with the monsoon approaching.
