A 22-year-old waiter from Haryana was arrested by Bicholim Police for allegedly duping his employer at Swad Restaurant, Vithalapur, of INR 70,000 through fraudulent Google Pay transfers, along with stealing INR 3,500 cash.
Police said the accused, who worked as a waiter, misused his position by making multiple unauthorised digital transactions from the restaurant’s account over a period of time. The fraud came to light when the employer noticed discrepancies in the financial records and a cash shortfall in the register.
Subsequent checks revealed that INR 70,000 had been siphoned into an account linked to the accused. Investigations also found that he had taken INR 3,500 in cash directly from the restaurant’s drawer, implicating him in both digital fraud and physical theft.
The management lodged a complaint with Bicholim Police, providing details of the suspicious transactions and missing cash, which led to the waiter’s arrest.
