In response to growing public concern, Warren Alemao met with the South Goa Superintendent of Police to address the alarming rise in illegal activities at the Benaulim public parking lot, which he described as a nighttime hub for drug peddling and drunken brawls.
Alemao said the situation has reached a tipping point, endangering both locals and tourists who frequent the area. He called for immediate and sustained police patrolling and strict enforcement to bring the situation under control.
“This parking lot is rapidly turning into a hotspot for unlawful behavior once the sun sets. Drug dealing and violent altercations are becoming a regular scene,” Alemao stated. “It’s unsafe and unacceptable. Authorities must act before the area’s reputation is permanently damaged.”
He emphasized that Benaulim, a popular tourist destination, cannot afford to let such activities go unchecked, as it could impact local livelihoods and tourism.
Residents have echoed Alemao’s concerns, claiming that despite complaints, the area remains poorly lit and largely unmonitored. They are now looking to law enforcement for immediate action.
The South Goa police have yet to issue an official statement, but sources indicate that increased patrolling may soon be deployed in the area.
