Waterlogging Plagues New Mandovi Bridge as Faulty Drainage Sparks Public Outcry

Published on

The newly constructed Mandovi Bridge is facing severe waterlogging issues due to a flawed drainage system, drawing sharp criticism from local residents and commuters.

According to reports, the primary cause of the problem lies in the placement of a new drain, which is situated around 15 meters away from the main water accumulation point. Instead of resolving the issue, the drain channels water directly onto a pedestrian pathway frequently used by those commuting between Betim and Porvorim — posing a safety risk and inconvenience to walkers.

Frustrated locals have slammed the inefficiency of the Public Works Department (PWD), particularly its engineers, for failing to address what they call a "basic design flaw" in a key infrastructure project. Many have called for immediate corrective action before the situation worsens during the monsoon season.

The incident has raised broader concerns about quality control and oversight in public infrastructure projects in Goa.
