MARGAO: Struggling to dry their paddy following rains, which can compromise the quality of their harvest, the farmers have urged the government to provide drying facilities to mitigate losses and preserve crop quality. They feel that access to proper drying equipment could significantly help reduce losses.

This is a critical time for farmers, and support from the government could make a substantial difference. The ongoing rains have dealt a severe blow to farmers, compounding the challenges they faced during the planting season.

This situation not only threatens their immediate food supply but also impacts their livelihood.

Speaking to O Heraldo, Rosario Fernandes, a farmer, expressed

his disappointment regarding the significant losses he faced with his paddy crop.

His sentiments reflect the challenges that farmers often encounter due to various factors such as weather conditions.

Fernandes noted that after harvesting his paddy recently, continuous rains have hindered his ability to dry it, causing significant damage.

He appealed to the government to provide drying facilities to help manage crop losses and added that it is crucial for the farming community and policymakers to recognise the dire circumstances and take action to support farmers during these difficult times.

Speaking to O Heraldo Santano Fernandes said that a significant amount of his paddy is currently stored in his house.

Highlighting the lack of options available to protect his hard-earned harvest, Santano said that as a temporary solution, he is using pedestal fans to dry the paddy indoors.
