A shocking incident of theft was reported yesterday morning at 9:30 a.m. inside a temple at Kelbaiwada, where flower seller Saraswati Naik was robbed of her gold necklace by a conman posing as a devotee.
According to reports, the accused approached Naik under the pretext of buying flowers and offering them inside the temple. Once inside, he asked her to bend down and place coconut flowers before the deity. Taking advantage of the moment, he swiftly cut off the three-tola gold chain she was wearing and fled the spot.
Witnesses said the accused distracted Naik in such a way that she was unable to raise an alarm immediately, allowing him to escape.
Prior to the theft, the same person is believed to have attempted to trick two women in Kelbaiwada by asking them for a “secret donation” at the temple, but those attempts failed. He later targeted Naik when he found the temple premises empty.
Police are investigating the case and efforts are on to trace the accused.
