BICHOLIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has assured the Court that he will refrain from making any defamatory statements against Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, until the next hearing. The assurance was conveyed by Singh’s counsel, Adv S Bodke, during a hearing before the Civil Judge, Senior Division, Bicholim, on Friday.

Adv Bodke informed the Court that Singh would not reiterate any of the statements that the plaintiff, Sulakshana Sawant, has challenged in her defamation suit. He also requested additional time to file a written statement and respond to the temporary injunction application filed by the plaintiff.

“No defamatory statement, or the statements which the plaintiff has taken objection to in the plaint made against the plaintiff would be made by the defendant until the next date of hearing or filing reply to the application,” Adv Bodke assured the Civil Judge, Senior

Division, Bicholim.

The case pertains to the Rs 100-crore defamation suit filed by Sulakshana Sawant, who accused Singh of making baseless allegations against her.

The allegations were made in connection with the multi-crore cash-for-government-jobs scam.

The suit was filed last month, prompting the Court to seek Singh’s response by January 10, 2025.

On December 5, 2024, Singh along with Goa AAP leaders had addressed a press conference in party’s national office at Delhi where he allegedly made the allegations against Sulakshana Sawant.

Sulakshana in her complaint has urged the Court to direct Singh to publish an apology clarifying that the defamatory video, article, interview and statements were false, not based on facts, and tender an unconditional apology. She had also prayed to restrain the AAP MP by a permanent injunction from making any defamatory statements pertaining to her on any of the social media websites or portals.

The Court has adjourned the matter to January 24, 2025, for further proceedings.
