WRD Officials Urge Citizens to Stop Dumping Plastic in Drains to Prevent Flooding in Dicholi

Published on

In a strong appeal to the public, officials from the Water Resources Department (WRD) in Dicholi have urged citizens to avoid using plastic and to properly dispose of used plastic waste instead of dumping it into drains. The warning comes amid ongoing efforts to remove silt from the Dicholi river, as accumulated plastic waste has been found to significantly increase the risk of flooding during the monsoon.

On Friday, WRD officials, including Chief Engineer Ankush Gaonkar, Assistant Engineer Shailesh Pokale, and Naresh Pokale, visited the site to inspect the progress of the silt removal operation. The team highlighted that unseasonal rains have posed challenges to the work, but efforts are continuing at a rapid pace.

To expedite the process, the department is utilizing a special amphibian JCB to tackle silt deposits in hard-to-reach areas of the river. Authorities are committed to completing the work before heavy rains intensify and are urging public cooperation to maintain clean and functional drainage systems.
