VASCO: The Water Resources Department (WRD) will repair the damaged seating arrangement and restore the washed-away steps at Velsao Beach.
The damage was caused due to sand erosion. The WRD engineers along with Cortalim MLA Anton Vas held a joint inspection at Velsao Beach on Saturday. The inspection was carried out following apprehensions raised by former Velsao-Pale-Issorcim panchayat member Roquezinho D’Souza and locals, who had stated that they were facing difficulties to visit the beach.
The WRD engineers assessed the extent of the damage caused to the seating area, which had developed cracks and posed a danger to users.
After the inspection, Anton Vas assured the villagers that immediate action would be taken by the WRD to restore both - the seating arrangement and the beach access, especially for the convenience of senior citizens. He also suggested construction of a ramp for easy access.
The MLA further assured the people that the restoration work will be completed within the next 15 days.
Roquezinho D’Souza said that the repair work would be expedited since senior citizens from Velsao and tourists were facing difficulties accessing the beach due to the steps damaged due to sand erosion. He pointed out that there were instances of people falling and getting injured due to damaged steps.
