PANJIM: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a yellow alert for September 23 and 24, warning of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied with winds gusting to 30-40 kmph at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa districts.
“Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied with winds gusting to 30-40 kmph is very likely at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa districts on September 23 and 24,” the IMD said.
Meanwhile, the State witnessed moderate rainfall in the month of September recording less than 0.8 inches of rainfall except on September 3, 9 and 10.
The State has so far received average rainfall of 165.8 inches of rainfall as against the normal rainfall of 115 inches during the period of June 1 to September 21, 2024.
As far as the gauge stations are concerned, Mapusa has received 149.5 inches, Pernem 169 inches, Ponda 162 inches, Panjim 152 inches, Old Goa 162.4 inches, Sanquelim 181 inches, Valpoi 214 inches, Canacona 158 inches, Dabolim 130.4 inches,
Margao 152 inches, Mormugao 145 inches, Quepem 181 inches and Sanguem 205.7 inches of rainfall so far since June 1, 2024.
