ALDONA: In a refreshing departure from the typical use of thermocol and plastic for festive decorations, 13-year-old Ved Naguesh Mandrekar from Quitla, Aldona, has taken a creative approach to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Debunking stereotypes of impatience and electronic gadget addiction often associated with adolescence, Ved has crafted stunning Ganesh Makhar (décor) exclusively from newspapers.
As the festival approaches, many are busy shopping and decorating, but Ved chose to embark on a unique project. “I used only newspaper for my decorations. I started this project in August and completed it just in time for the Ganesh festival. My decorations contain no plastic or any other materials that harm the environment,” he explained.
With a vision to inspire others, Ved hopes to promote eco-friendly decorations. “Traditionally, newspapers are used for reading and then discarded, but I’ve demonstrated how they can be repurposed creatively. My decorations feature various designs, including long rolls, flowers, and other unique patterns,” he added, expressing gratitude to his family for their unwavering support.
The young artist has garnered praise from neighbors and friends, who have been impressed by his creativity. Their positive feedback has been a source of encouragement for him. “As we bid farewell to Lord Ganesh on the fifth day of the festival, I feel I have given my best and served him in the most meaningful way. I hope that Lord Ganesh is pleased with my efforts,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ved is excited about the prospect of creating even more innovative and eco-friendly decorations next year. He encourages everyone to embrace and promote the use of sustainable materials in their festive celebrations.
