MARGAO: The Maina Curtorim police have registered a case against Hazel Fernandes of Margao for allegedly duping Asish Wagh of Salcete by posing as an overseas recruiting agent. Fernandes allegedly lured Wagh with a data entry job offer near the Myanmar border, only to trap him in forced labor at a fake Bitcoin company along with other victims.

Upon receiving the complaint from Wagh’s wife, Punam, the police, under the supervision of SP South Smt Sunita Sawant and SDPO Margao Santosh Dessai, launched a coordinated rescue effort with Indian Embassies in Myanmar and Thailand. Through persistent follow-ups and international collaboration, Wagh was successfully rescued and has now returned home to Goa, reuniting with his family.

SP Sunita Sawant has issued a public appeal, urging people not to fall prey to fraudulent job offers abroad, highlighting the importance of verifying employment opportunities before proceeding.

The case, registered under IPC Sections 370, 370(1), 420, and Section 10 of the Emigration Act 1983, reveals a disturbing tale of exploitation and deceit.
