VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said that the government will make it mandatory to have ‘E’ sticker for vehicles driven by senior citizens in the State.

Godinho stated this during the launch of ‘E’ sticker for vehicles driven by senior citizens, an initiative started by the Rotary Club of Miramar in association with the Directorate of Transport.

Congratulating the Rotary Club for starting the initiative, the Minister said that it will be on the lines of ‘L’ sticker for learners, who are learning driving so that it alert other road users, who become more careful.

Similarly, ‘E’ sticker will be for elderly persons driving on the road, Godinho said adding that the government will try to amend the Motor Vehicle Act so that whenever alphabet ‘E’ is seen pasted on vehicles, the drivers will be respected by others as it will imply that an elderly person is driving the vehicle and other vehicle operators will not honk and will not speed around them and give them the right of way at turns.

The Minister hinted that plans are afoot to have new series of registration numbers for vintage cars as it will help owners to maintain and preserve these cars.

He said that the government will make vintage car rally held on Liberation Day an annual event by allowing participation of vintage cars from across the country.
