PANJIM: Director of Tourism Nikhil Desai on Wednesday said that stringent action will be taken against hawkers, touts and the others involved in illegal business on the Goan coastline.

Desai appealed to the unregistered business firm owners to adhere to the laws and act legally by registering themselves with Department of Tourism.

Desai at the same time appealed to the unregistered business owners carrying out their business at the Goan coastline to come forward voluntarily and register to avoid unpleasant actions by the Department.

He also said that the integrated beach management concept floated by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte is underway.

Speaking to Herald, Desai said that the priority will be given to provide safe, secure and clean destinations to the tourists and to provide better infrastructure to the tourists visiting Goa, promoting heritage culture, ensuring better transportation facilities, providing better tourism facilities to its stakeholders, consolidation of new tourism services, focusing on hinterland tourism and to boost the family oriented tourism.

Desai added that the double-decker buses services which closed for last three years due to Covid will be activated in this season. He said that the Mopa International Airport to be operational from September 1 will add to the boosting of Goa tourism.

“Goa Tourism which was suffering from the painful pandemic years has now started reviving as Goa is receiving an excellent response from the tourists. The occupancy of tourists in Goa is quite high which is a sign of tourism revival”, he added.
