HC notice to IDC over 'illegal' plot conversion

PANJIM:  The Bombay High Court at Goa has issued notice to Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) over alleged illegal conversion of industrial plot to institutional use in violation of the terms of the lease deed. 

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed by activist Kashinath Shetye against IDC and M/s Sea Scan Marine Services Private Ltd, who have illegally put into use a plot marked for industrial purpose to institutional use in Verna. 

The Division bench of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Mahesh Sonak has issued notice to the respondents that include IDC, M/s Sea Scan Marine Services Pvt Ltd and State government. They are asked to reply within six weeks.  

The petitioner has pointed out before the High Court the illegality committed by M/s Sea Scan Marine Services Pvt Ltd, who was allotted plot bearing Nos L47A, B and C at Verna Industrial Estate by IDC for the purpose of carrying out activities such as Industrial Fabrication and Lathe Works. 

The petitioner alleged that the company is not carrying out industrial activity in the said plot but on the contrary conducting maritime courses in the building constructed in the plot in violation of the terms of the lease and without the necessary clearances.
