History sheeter from Chinchinim held for stealing mobiles from GMC

PANJIM: The Agasaim police arrested a 29-year-old history sheeter from Chinchinim, Cuncolim, for allegedly stealing mobile phones from wards of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

According to police, the accused Movin Fernandes was arrested with the help of electronic and technical surveillance from Mapusa.

He was the prime culprit robbing mobiles from the GMC complex and would target relatives of the patients sleeping in the waiting area outside the wards during wee hours. Movin is also wanted by other police stations in the state for similar crimes, police said.

Police said during course of the investigation, the accused admitted that he along with his accomplice had committed thefts of lot of mobile phones from GMC and sold them to various labourers in the market at Calangute. He would charge from Rs 2000 to Rs 10000 based on the type of the phone, said police.

As many as ten mobile phones of various makes worth Rs 1.5 lakh have been found in his possession, police said.

According to the police, as the accused is drug addict, the motive behind committing the crime was to arrange money to purchase Psychotropic substance by selling the mobile phones. Cops said that they would probe the source from where bought the drugs from.

Movin has now been booked under various sections of IPC in police stations such as Cuncolim, Agasaim, Pernem, Maina Curtorim, Margao, Mapusa and Panjim, police said.
