Komal film screening

The department has instructed all government, aided and non-aided schools and secondary schools to screen national award winning animated short film Komal on child sex abuse. 

The film, produced by NGO Child Line had also received the ‘best educational film’ for teaching underage students the ‘appropriate safe’ and ‘inappropriate’ touch. 

“There is a need to sensitize the children on what constitutes ‘inappropriate touch’ or what is molestation at the early age of seven to eight years,” the circular issued by Director G P Bhat reads. It also says that the awareness will draw the attention of a girl child on the problems of molestation and sexual abuse. 

The department recently issued ‘safety advisory’ to all schools with emphasis laid on girls’ safety. Besides asking school managements to enhance the infrastructure of the campus, they have also been instructed to make arrangements to check and inspect unauthorized persons entering the premises. The advisory also highlights safety of students travelling by school buses by barring unknown persons from entering the vehicle, hire women helpers as far as possible, and verify the background of drivers and helpers from the respective police stations.
