VASCO: Alok Kumar took over as a principal chief personnel officer of South Western Railway recently. He is from the Indian Railway Personnel Service of 1987 Exam batch. 

In a press release issued by SWR, Kumar started his career in North Eastern Railway with assignments in Lucknow followed by Samastipur Divisions.  Thereafter, he had worked in various capacities at Diesel Locomotive Works, South Central Railway & West Central Railway.

Kumar has served in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and also in Cabinet Secretariat on deputation from 2005 to 2012. 

After serving on deputation, he has done Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration (APPPA) from Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi.  Subsequently, he joined Northern Railway. While in Northern Railway, he did his LLM in Constitutional Law.

Kumar has served in Northern Railway as CPO/Admn, CPO/IR and PCPO. In April 2016, he worked as EDE (IR), Railway Board and till July 3, 2020 before taking charge as PCPO, SWR.
