SANGUEM: Janardhan Sadekar, a 55-year-old LIC officer from Mapusa, lost his life due to drowning at Mainapi waterfall in Netravali village of Sanguem taluka on Sunday afternoon. A second person is feared drowned as well.

The unfortunate incident occurred when Sadekar ventured into the deep waters of Mainapi waterfall to rescue a youth from Vasco, who was struggling to stay afloat. While Sadekar's body was retrieved soon after the incident, the search for the youth’s body is ongoing.

Frantic efforts are being made by the police, fire brigade, and local residents to locate the missing individual.

According to sources, Sadekar, along with 11 men and three women, had gone on a picnic to Mainapi waterfall. Upon reaching the waterfall, located deep within the forest area, Sadekar noticed a youth in distress and immediately jumped into the water to save him. Unfortunately, he was swept away by the strong currents.

The fire brigade, assisted by locals and the police, managed to recover Sadekar's body.

It is important to highlight the perilous nature of venturing into waterfalls during the monsoon season in Netravali village. Despite the inherent dangers, a significant number of tourists still flock to the village to witness the powerful flow of water from great heights.
