Locals fiercely oppose another ‘Bhutani’ type project near Monte Hill, Old Goa

The project at the heritage side on the eco sensitive hill slope will destroy the village below and the lake

PANJIM: Locals from Old Goa, Cumbarjua and Divar have warned the government of a major agitation, for giving permission for a project to come up near Monte Hill Chapel, Old Goa. They said, this is an eco-sensitive area and just as government is taking action against Bhutani, it should stop this project.

The protestors handed a memorandum to the Town and Country Planning Department, at Patto, Panjim on Friday.

The project on the hill slope is promoted by Enigma Properties, which is a non-Goan firm. They said the Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Phaldesai has not said a word about it, although he is on the TCP Board. Government should bring a law to stop sale of Goan lands by Goans, they said.

The government is out to finish by bringing the 17 (2) and 39(A) amendments. Now they have reached the villages. We have submitted a memorandum to the Town and Country Planning Department regarding a proposed project next to the Monte Chapel, which is coming up on an area of 1,64,000 sqm, by a non Goan builder Enigma Properties, Pvt Ltd. This property has been put for conversion and published on the gazette. However only suggestions have been invited by the government, not objections as was previously done.
