PERNEM: Facing tough competition from the MGP candidates in Dhargalim and Torxem, BJP candidates backed by Pernem MLA and Deputy Chief Minister Manohar(Babu) Ajgaonkar, Manohar Yashwant Dhargal and Seema Rama Khadpe won the Zilla Parishad elections, on Monday. 

Dhargal secured 3,477 votes defeating Atmaram Balkrishna Dhargalkar by a margin of 55 votes, who managed to get 3,422 while Khadpe got 4,222 votes defeating Priyanka Sandesh Mahale, who got 2,456 votes, with margin of 1,766 votes. In Torxem and Dhargalim, Congress had directly extended its support to MGP candidates by not fielding any candidates on the party line. On the other hand, both the BJP seats in Morjim and Arambol lost to Independent candidates. 

Satish Shetgaonkar won the Morjim ZP seat by defeating BJP candidate Dhananjay Shetgaonkar and MGP Candidate Shridhar Manjrekar. Satish won by 24 votes by securing 2,930 votes while Dhananjay got 2,906 votes and MGP candidate Shridhar Manjrekar took 2,673 votes.

In similar line, independent candidate Ranganath Kalshavkar won the Arambol ZP seat by defeating BJP and Congress candidates with margin of 719 votes. While the independent candidate won with 4,081 votes, BJP candidate Anant Gadekar received 3,363 votes and Congress candidate Narayan Redkar managed to secure 3,039 votes.

While addressing the media persons Ajgaonkar said,”I give full credit to all the karyakartas of the BJP who worked day and night to win both the seats at Dhargalim and Torxem. In few parts received good votes while in few parts, the voting was less. However, based on the votes, the study will be done to know why there was a difference in voting in different areas and why there were fewer votes.”
