VALPOI: Valpoi police have arrested one person for shooting the person accompanying him, while hunting for wild animals in Valpoi. Accused Abhijit Desai, aged 34 of Dodamarg, Maharashtra was arrested for accidentally firing a gunshot at Hemant Hirba Desai, of Advoi Sattari while hunting wild animals. Both had gone for hunting in the Cashew plantation at Fulasaryo, Advoi Sattari on Thursday. Abhijit was taken into custody and arrested.
Hemant Desai, a 32-year-old resident of Advoi Sattari, was allegedly shot dead under mysterious circumstances during a hunting trip in Valpoi. The incident took place when Desai and another individual ventured into the forest to hunt, during which Desai sustained fatal gunshot injuries.
Police have confirmed that Desai died at the scene.
Abhijit is the son of Narayan Desai, native of Thadebhatla, Dodamarg, Maharasthra. It is reported that the duo went for hunting on Thursday at around 6:30 pm and the incident occured around 9pm when Abhijit loaded and fired the gun. The gun shot injured Hemant Desai thereby causing him serious injuries and death.
Valpoi Police Station have received a complaint from uncle of deceased and immediately an offence under sections 105 R/w 3(5) of the BNS 2023 and
Section 3 R/w 25 & 27 of Arms Act and Section 9 of Wild Life Protection Act 1972 has been registered.
During the course of investigation accused Abhijit Desai, age 34 yearswas taken in to custody and arrested.
Valpoi Police have conducted scene of offence Panchanama by using Forensic Export Team and where successful in attaching one Firearm with empty cartridge and one scooter from the scene of crime.
Firearm did not have a valid licence .
