MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council in their special council meeting on Tuesday resolved to utilise the funds granted under the 15th Finance Commission to establish four health and wellness centers within its jurisdiction.
The meeting was called by MMC Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar, and was attended by the Chief Officer, Engineers and Councillors.
During this meeting, the council also resolved to take up the upgradation of the existing Sub Health Center at Ghateshwar Nagar, Khorlim, at a cost of Rs 21 lakh for the first phase, which will include upgrading the facilities and recruiting additional staff. Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar said that at least 175 sq mtrs of land would be required to set up a health and wellness center. The Council has also shortlisted three more wards - Karaswada, Cunchelim and Gausawada - where the Municipality will identify the land and undertake the
establishment of these health centres.
The Council further discussed the rates for the fees to be collected from the stalls operating at Dev Bodgeshwar Jatra. It was decided that the Municipality will collect Rs 500 from stalls selling sweets (Khajekars). Stalls selling food, toys, clothes and other items will be charged Rs 75 per sq mt while locals selling bananas and flowers will be charged Rs150 per day.
Garbage bags will be given to vendors using plastic and Municipal staff will be deployed to collect the garbage from all the stalls on a daily basis. “We are working on making the Jatra a garbage-free fair,” said the Chairperson.
