MAPUSA: Municipal fish market of Mapusa reopened on Wednesday after almost two months with few vendors carrying out business.

The Market was shut as precautionary measure to curb the spread of Coronavirus but after the State government gave relaxation to this vertical, Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) opened the fish market for the general public.

However, only few fish vendors were allowed to operate by following norms of social distancing of two meters. On first day very few people walked into the market to buy fish.

Shashikala Govekar president of Mapusa fish vendors association said, “Since the market was shut, fish vendors had begun selling fish on the roadside due to which people preferred to buy from them and avoided coming to the market due to which we received low response on the first day.”

“These vendors should come back to the market. If they continue to sell at the roadside then public will not come to fish market hence I request all fish vendors to come to the fish market” said Govekar.
