Sanguem, Goa: A massive fire broke out on Odshe Dongor in Devlamol, Sanguem, rapidly spreading from the surrounding dry grasslands to the surrounding forest prompting an urgent response from emergency services.
Fire brigade personnel from Curchorem rushed to the scene upon receiving an alert and were successful in dousing flames near residential areas and fields, preventing the blaze from reaching nearby homes.
“We extinguished the fire in the fields and around neighboring homes. However, the fire continues to persist in the forest area. Since our vehicle isn’t suited for forest terrain, we’ve informed the Forest Department to take over,” said a firefighter at the scene.
As of now, flames continue to smolder within the forested section of the mountain, with thick smoke visible from a distance. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further spread.
Residents have been urged to stay alert as firefighting teams work in coordination with forest officials to bring the situation under control.
