MAPUSA: The MLA of Aldona Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Mayem MLA Premender Vishnu Shet along with PWD engineers and the panch members of Mayem conducted a joint inspection of the existing Corjuem-Sinquerim bridge, to finalise the proposal for a permanent motorable bridge to connect the two villages.  At present, there is a metal footbridge connecting the two villages, used as a shortcut by pedestrians.

“There are two options; the first is that the existing bridge can be converted and rebuilt with RCC, and the second is that we build a new bridge beside the old one. We will put forth both estimates before the government and it can decide the best proposal, which is both cost-effective and convenient,” said the Mayem MLA. “This existing metal bridge is being used a lot because villagers from both villages need this connectivity. Our ancestors had built an ordinary bridge here, which was replaced by the metal bridge,” Shet said.

“Let the engineers examine both options. Even the people from Corjuem have demands. The existing bridge is unsafe. Children use it to go to school and some people use it to travel to work; it has proven very useful for the people of Sinquerim,” Aldona MLA Ferreira said.
