CALANGUTE: Calangute Police arrested a 32-year-old dance pub manager from Gaura Vaddo, Calangute, and rescued 18 girls from the dance pub at Calangute late Saturday night.
According to Calangute Police, the girls were rescued while they were being shifted to a store room where liquor and water bottles were stored. “Six girls were in ‘dress code of waitresses’, while the remaining girls were in short skirts,” informed police.
Police further informed that the lights of the dance bar were put off when Calangute Police conducted the raid at about 11 pm on Saturday, which allowed the probable customers to escape from the premises.
Calangute Police arrested dance pub manager Ronny Chakravarthy and a case has been registered against another person.
The Calangute Police team was led by PI Nilesh Rane and Police is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, reacting to the police raid, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said he will not allow any dance bars to re-open in his constituency.
“The dance bars remained closed since my surprise visit at a night pub at Umtta Vaddo, Calangute, in April 2012, highlighting the illegal activities. However, of late there have been moves either directly or indirectly to re-open them under guise of restaurants, etc,” stated Lobo.
“I have made representations to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the Director General of Police not to allow the re-opening of night pubs in my constituency. I have promised the electorate to clean up the Calangute constituency by putting an end to illegal activities and I will keep my word,” said Lobo.
“I have been keeping a close watch on illegal activities in my constituency and will not tolerate such illegal activities,” he added.
“I will insist upon the Calangute Police to continue raiding such premises where illegal activities are taking place,” said Lobo.
