Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has decided to knock the doors of the South Goa district Magistrate to activate the 6-7 mobile towers, lying idle due to opposition from the people.
At the Open House session held a the Margao Municipal on Wednesday morning, BSNL officials as well as telephone subscribers have decided to call on the district Magistrate and impress upon him to convene meetings with residents objecting to installation and activation of the mobile towers.
BSNL has further informed that it will soon approach the police to initiate penal action against the private agencies responsible for leaving the underground cable damaged due to haphazard digging.
BSNL general Manager Ravi informed after the Open House Session that telephone subscribers have been put to lot of hardships at many places on account of damage for the underground cable due to digging. “We will take up with the police department to initiate action for damage to the cables”, he added.
The BSNL general manager said the telephone directory has been circulated by the department and the directories are available at the telephone exchanges.
Replying to a question, he said the BSNL call centre will be set up in the state within the next three months, adding that BSNL has simplified the mechanism by opening local numbers which should help broadband customers.
On the question of disputes raised by customers against BSNL, Ravi said BSNL will publish the consumer disputes redressal mechanism, including the Appellate authority for consumers to get their disputes redressed.
GOACAN Coordinator, Roland Martins told newsmen that BSNL at today’s open house session has agreed to depute a deputy general manager for South Goa.
