PANJIM: Industrialist Dattaraj Salgaocar was congratulated by the Goa Assembly for receiving the prestigious Decoration of Merit in Gold Award from the government of Austria and urged him to better ties with Austria to benefit both India and Goa in different business sectors.

Moving the Congratulatory Motion in the Assembly Wednesday, Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho said, “Dattaraj Salgaocar is the third Indian during the last 60 years to be bestowed with such a prestigious award and it is a proud moment for Goa.”

He hailed Salgaocar’s contribution in various sectors in Goa ranging from industry, to sports, education and his contribution to society. 

“He needs to be applauded for his great contribution to Goan society,” he said.

Godinho said that this renowned industrialist could now further bilateral ties between India and Austria and could help Goa to promote tourism and tap high quality tourists from Austria.

“With all attention now on the pie called tourism, Goa can further business relations in the tourism sector with Austria,” Godinho said.

Both Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar also congratulated Salgaocar.
