CANACONA: A leopard attacked a 65-year old man at Agonda, while forest officials trapped another leopard at Chiplem-Poinguinim early Monday morning.

According to reports, Kamlakar Devidas was proceeding to a cashew plantation at Bokdeamoll-Agonda when a leopard suddenly pounced on him at about 7.30 am. 

Stunned by the attack, Devidas, however managed to escape by hitting the leopard with a chopper that was with him.

Devidas sustained abdominal injuries in the attack and was later referred to the Community Health Centre for medical treatment. He was later discharged after first aid.

In another incident, forest officials trapped an adult male leopard at Chiplem-Poinguinim early Monday morning.

According to Deputy Conservator of Forests Ramesh Gauns Dessai, the leopard had been attacking dogs and other pets in the area and it was often sighted in the locality.

“A trap was laid and the leopard got trapped early Monday morning. The leopard was sent at Hathipal Rescue Centre, Cotigao, and it will be released at Netravali forest cover on Monday night,” informed Dessai.
